Veneers can dramatically improve the appearance of a cracked, chipped, damaged, decayed, widely spaced or discoloured tooth as well as protect it from further damage. But the benefits don’t just stop there, as veneers can help you regain your confidence to smile, offering a long-term investment in your wellbeing.
The two main types of material used to create a veneer:
- Composite – can either be made by an offsite dental technician in the lab and bonded to your tooth using resin cement or directly built up in your mouth.
- Dental porcelain – these can only be made by a dental technician and are directly bonded to a prepared tooth later on. Porcelain veneers are less susceptible to staining and more durable than their composite counterparts.
Custom created for you
At Keppel Advanced Dentistry, we understand that every smile is different and that cosmetic dentistry encompasses your facial aesthetic, tooth shape, size and structure. Your veneer(s) will be created to match the shade and size of your existing teeth – the is achieved by taking x-rays and impressions of your teeth beforehand and your dentist will etch a thin piece of enamel from your tooth in order to achieve uniform thickness for all of your teeth.
Porcelain veneers are stain-resistant
If you opt for porcelain veneers, these will be very resistant to staining from certain food and drink as they are coated with a stain-resistant resin. Certain lifestyle choices such as smoking and eating hard foods may damage the resin that protects them; the resin acts a little like tooth enamel in this way – once it is gone, your tooth is more susceptible to staining. Staining can be kept to a minimum by applying a regimental brushing routine and drinking certain drinks though a straw to avoid contact with your teeth.
Durable and easy to maintain
If properly looked after, veneers can last up to 20 years and can be looked after in the same way as your existing teeth so they are a very maintenance solution in this respect.
No recovery period
The procedure is very straightforward, pain-free and there is no recovery period associated with veneers – you can resume all day-to-day activities immediately.
Veneers offer a highly aesthetic result as they are custom made for your smile. The dental technology behind veneers has been developing rapidly over the past 30 years. The newer design incorporates stronger types of porcelain that reflect light in a similar way to natural dental enamel.
